about

When I was 5 years old, my parents and another two people went to Lake Shebeshekong to do some fishing. We rented a boat and motor and off we went - five of us in a small boat and cases of beer. They drank and drank as the wind picked up. Soon one of the men was wretchedly drunk so they decided to leave him on a small bare island while we went off fishing. The weather broke into violent lightening and torrential downpours and it was decided that we should leave. The motor was acting up as the rain slowly filled the boat - they tried to bail with empty beer bottles - but we managed to get back to the island to find the strandee on his hands and knees crying like a child as the storm blasted overhead. We got the drunken crying man into the boat and returned to the dock eventually. From there the drunken crying man - the only one with a drivers license - drove us back to the cabin.
This was not an isolated incident.
